Partnership
The implementation of activities promoting equality, diversity, and safety at the University of Warsaw also relies on collaboration with social organizations, public institutions, other universities, and national and international partners. This partnership includes joint projects and research, the preparation of reports and educational materials, the organization of training courses and seminars, the exchange of good practices, and participation in networks and initiatives aimed at developing equality policies in higher education.
National Partnership
Academic Network for Equality and Safety (ASBiR)
Members of the Equality Team and the Academic Ombudsman Team have been actively involved in the activities of the Academic Network for Equality and Safety (ASBiR) – a community connecting individuals at Polish universities who serve in roles related to the protection of academic rights and values, safety, equality, and diversity – since its inception.
ASBiR has operated as a registered association since April 2023, and its governing bodies include University of Warsaw employees working in equality and safety. The network facilitates the exchange of knowledge and experiences between universities, the creation of a database of good practices, the identification of common problems, and the conduct of joint research and preparation of inter-university reports.
As part of ASBiR’s activities, representatives from the University of Warsaw also participate in activities aimed at the academic community, including training courses and seminars. In 2024, ASBiR organized a series of training courses and seminars on topics such as student rights, surveys, equality initiatives, and gender equality plans. The “Your Engagement Matters” project received funding from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
In 2025, ASBiR also prepared recommendations regarding the situation of gender diverse individuals at Polish universities. The material was presented at a conference at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education with representatives from the ministry, the academic community, and social organizations.
Feminoteka Foundation
The University of Warsaw has been collaborating with the Feminoteka Foundation to combat sexual violence and harassment and to prepare university staff to respond appropriately to such situations since 2021.
As part of this collaboration, a course entitled “Counteracting Sexual Harassment at the University” was developed by Joanna Piotrowska of the Feminoteka Foundation in collaboration with Dr. Julia Kubisa. The course is part of the University of Warsaw’s equality education program.
In October 2025, a webinar entitled “How to Prevent Sexual Harassment at the University and Support Victims” was also held, organized in cooperation with the Feminoteka Foundation. The meeting focused on recognizing, preventing, and responding to sexual harassment, and the section devoted to support institutions at the University of Warsaw was led by the University of Warsaw’s Chief Equality Specialist.
“Open University” Ranking
In 2026, the University of Warsaw won the “Open University” ranking, organized by the Student Parliament of the Republic of Poland. The ranking recognizes universities that actively create an accessible, safe, and friendly environment for the entire academic community. The competition jury recognized the University of Warsaw’s efforts to promote openness and accessibility.
Participation in the initiative exemplifies the cooperation and exchange of experiences between universities and organizations representing the student community.
International and European Cooperation
GEPARD – Gender Equality Programme in Academia – Raising Diversity
The University of Warsaw participated in activities related to the European project GEPARD – “Gender Equality Programme in Academia – Raising Diversity,” which aimed to equalize opportunities for women and men in the academic community, counteract gender discrimination, and increase diversity in higher education.
The project was implemented by an international consortium comprising universities from Poland, Austria, Hungary, Cyprus, and Malta, along with a partner from the business sector. The project developed, among other things, a methodological guide for equality and diversity research, as well as training materials and tools to support the implementation of gender equality plans.
Representatives from the University of Warsaw also participated in the international conference summarizing the project, which took place in March 2024 at the University of Silesia.
INSPIRE
The Equality Team participates in the European INSPIRE project, which aims to develop inclusive gender equality in research and innovation and strengthen the competencies of individuals and institutions involved in equality.
INSPIRE operates as a European center of excellence, supporting the development of knowledge, competencies, and practical tools through expert networking, training, audits, and resource development. The project addresses, among other topics, sustainability, increasing participation, intersectionality and innovation in the private sector.
Collaboration and Exchange of Good Practices
The University of Warsaw also actively monitors and promotes equality initiatives implemented by other universities, institutions, and organizations in Poland and abroad. The Equality Page features a section presenting inspiring solutions on topics such as gender equality, diversity, anti-discrimination, and safety in the academic environment.
