Academy Manager Follow Up with Prof. Londa Schiebinger – on gender dimension in research and innovation

29 09 2025
Join on 30 September, 16:00–18:00 (CET) for a unique online session with Prof. Londa Schiebinger, John L. Hinds Professor of History of Science at Stanford University.
Prof. Schiebinger is a world-renowned expert on gender equality in science and innovation, and Director of the Gendered Innovations project, supported by the European Commission. Her research is regularly published in leading journals such as Nature – we recommend her recent article: Intersectional analysis for science and technology.
Why is this topic so important? Poorly designed research can have dramatic consequences. In 2001, a US government study revealed that ten drugs were withdrawn from the market due to life-threatening side effects – eight of them posed greater risks for women, largely because they had been tested primarily on men (both in clinical trials and in animal studies). “We cannot afford mistakes in research,” stresses Prof. Schiebinger.
The event will also feature representatives from the European Commission’s Gender Sector – Democracy, Equality, and Culture, who will present the EU’s approach to inclusive gender equality in research and innovation, including policy and implementation.
Participation is free of charge, but requires prior registration on the organizer’s website. The session will be held in English. More information and registration form are available here.
