We are all equal
The social campaign “We are all equal” is addressed to the entire community of the University of Warsaw.
Its purpose is to strongly emphasize that there is no place for discrimination at UW and that people who experience it will find support at the university. At the University of Warsaw, we srrive for creating a space free from any discrimination, where everyone can feel safe.
The UW community is diverse in many ways, but what they all have in common is that we are equal.
The campaign is part of the activities implementing the European Charter for Researchers and the HR Excellence in Research strategy at the University of Warsaw. The strategy assumes the implementation of activities in the area of equal treatment and increasing knowledge and awareness in the field of anti-discrimination.
We encourage you to watch the series of films of the campaign “We are all equal”
Campaign opening video
The community of the University of Warsaw is diverse in many ways. However, what we all have in common is that we are equal. We do not accept discrimination, mobbing, sexual harassment and unequal treatment. React, you are not alone!
What is discrimination?
Dr hab. Julia Kubisa, an equality specialist at the University of Warsaw, presents what discrimination is and what are its types.
Discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity
Sexual orientation and gender identity are some of the personal characteristics that are very often susceptible to discriminatory behaviour. Ms Magdalena Wrońska from the Queer UW student organization operating at the University of Warsaw explains what homophobia, biphobia and transphobia are and indicates where people exposed to discrimination due to their sexual orientation and gender identity can seek help.
Ageism, or discrimination based on age
Dr Anna Cybulko, Academic Ombusman of the University of Warsaw, who deals with mediation, diagnosing problems and supporting conflict resolution on a daily basis, presents what age discrimination is and in what situations one should react.
Sexism -the discrimination based on sex or gender
In the next video, dr hab. Julia Kubisa, an equality specialist at the University of Warsaw, presents what gender discrimination is and how we should react to sexist behaviour to counteract this phenomenon.
Discrimination based on the disability
In the next material, we talk about what discrimination based on the disability is. Mr Paweł Wdówik, head of the Office for People with Disabilities of the University of Warsaw, presents how people with disabilities and chronically ill people should be treated.
Discrimination based on origin
In the next material, the vice-rector for students and the quality of education, dr hab. Jolanta Choińska-Mika, prof. UW, reminds us why we cannot behave in an inappropriate and unfair way towards students and employees of the University coming from other countries.
Mobbing (workplace bullying)
It is estimated that on average 5% of employees in Poland fall victim to mobbing. Ms Magdalena Miksa, Anti-mobbing Coordinator, member of the Academic Ombudsman team, talks about what behaviours qualify as mobbing, and where to look for support help at the University of Warsaw.
Sexual harassment
What is sexual harassment? What behaviours constitute sexual harassment? It’s not just using the corporeality of another person. What to do when we become a victim of harassment? Who can help in such situations? This is what Ms Antonina Lewandowska, a consultant on sexual violence in the UW Student Ombudsman’s Team, talks about.
Hate speech
Hate speech has serious consequences for the well-being and mental health of those who experience it. Dr hab. Michał Bilewicz, head of the Center for Research on Prejudice of the University of Warsaw, presents an initiative to help the University of Warsaw become a space where no one will experience hate speech.
Discrimination through the eyes of participants of the “We are all equal” campaign
Finally, we present a video in which participants of the campaign talk about what discrimination means to them, why they decided to take part in the campaign, whether they are afraid of discrimination and what can be done when witnessing discrimination.
All of the above videos can also be viewed on the playlist on the You Tube channel of the University of Warsaw
