Integrating a gender perspective in research is no longer an option, but a requirement

02 10 2025
Those interested in research work are encouraged to read the announcement from the National Contact Point (KPK), which emphasizes that integrating a gender dimension into research and innovation is currently a mandatory, not optional, principle. Only projects specifically exempted by the European Commission may be exempt from this requirement.
The KPK has also published a guide: “How to Integrate a Gender Dimension into Projects,” which aims to support scientists in planning, implementing, and evaluating projects with a gender perspective. This publication provides practical step-by-step instructions on how to implement a gender dimension into a project – from the proposal preparation phase to the analysis of results.
Taking a gender perspective into account:
- Improves the quality of research – it enables better capture of social and biological differences, which translates into more accurate and universal results,
- Increases societal impact – the results of research, services, and technologies are more tailored to diverse users,
- Fosters innovation and creativity – it broadens the scope of research and can lead to the discovery of new problem areas.
